what is the knocking noise in my dashboard?

a knocking noise is in my dashboard when the fan is on. it is on the right side of dashboard up by the window.  it quits after about 30 seconds after I start the vehicle but happens almost everytime.  sometimes the fan will not work when the knocking noise is happening.

Fan motor or blower assembly,may be something in it.

or the fan cage it out of round or unbalanced.
