2010 F150 Engine Noise

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2010 F150 with 105000 miles and I just started getting a whine from the engine. It seems to relate to the engine RPM's. I can't tell if it is from the alternator or the power steering pump. Does anyone have any insight on the possible cause?

Ford power steering pumps are notorious for wining. Alternators don't wine, they will sing, growl, or squeal.

Remove the belt and turn the idler and tensioner by hand and make sure they are smooth, before u change the pump. U may have a bad idler or tensioner
Excellent! Just the advice I needed. I check the pump, idler and tensioner. My money is on the pump. thanks
