car stopped and wont start. turns over, but wont fire

Hello, my wife's car died while on the freeway. When i try to start the car, it just
turns over without firing. The check engine light is on. It has also been running
hot. My son filled up the coolant reservoir. I connected my OBD2 diagnostic
tool but it keeps coming back as not seeing the ECM. I'm really just trying to
get a clue so I dont get ripped off by the local mechanic.

Thanks Chevytruckman76. I've replaced that on my RAM 1500 - it was really easy. Thank you. I'll order a new sensor and keep you posted.
Did you check the timing belt to see if it jumped or broke?
Thanks cjsras. will a timing light give me this info?
In my step something similar, I have a 2009 mini cooper s. Everything was going on in my car. Until I change the fuel filter, that fault started. I did not want to light. so he stays in power. the truth is that I can not help seeing quirn. obeso36@hotmail.com greeting from mexico
