Question type: Maintenance & Repair

You let my wife's 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 sit for more than a couple of hours it cranks but does not start. Thinking it is the fuel pump but not sure.  it has 107,000 miles on it.

We just purchased a 2011 1500 doge ram truck Friday two days ago. When we went to car lot it was detailed n waiting for us to test drive. The salesman tries to crank it n it wouldn't start n said it was out of gas n waited a fee minutes n it cranked n went n got gas. Now that we brought n have had it for two days it is doing it on s regular basic. We wait 3 or 4 minutes then it starts. It cranks but want start. I'm am hearing this a lot from different people.

Fuel line to injectors is leaking or emptying back to the tank. Ie fuel pump check valve, leak in fuel line etc

I would give it a basic tune up. Going by how old it is and the mileage. Put new spark plugs in and change the air filter. The probability of it being fuel related is slim to none. The bright side is plugs and air filter will cost less than a $150 and the truck will start right up, run smooth and powerful again like it did when it was new!

The one saying that it will start after 3 or 4 minutes, sounds like low fuel pressure, try cycling the fuel pressure by turning the key to the on position, where all of the lights are lit up on the cluster where the speedometer and other guages are, do this 4 to 5 times in a row, turn the key to on for 5 to 10 seconds then to off position repeat the process. If it starts right away, then it is most likely do to low fuel pressure, meaning that the fuel pump is weak. Or restriction in fuel filter.

Had ongoing problem with my 2012 hemi. Sometimes would crank away but would not start, wait a few minutes and it would start. Got worse and worse till I never knew if it would go or not, mostly not. Wasted $350 on a fuel pump, made no difference. Did more research, turned out to be in TIPM. For whatever reason, dodge put fuel pump relay soldered to bottom of TIPM so cannot be easily changed when it fails. Found a fuel pump relay bypass online. Ordered it up, installed it, not a problem since.
