Does the fuel pump make a humming when changing battery out

I have my 2005 Mustang in storage. The battery went dead, I put a charger on
and the fuel pump started to humm for about 10 sec. is that normal ?

Not unless it's possible for the key to be removed with the switch on? The Keys are hanging on the hook.
