The motor for the Electronic Power Steering makes a "whining" noise.

The motor for the Electronic Power Steering makes a "whining" noise every time I turn
the steering wheel. Is this normal? There is no loss of power or function. It is a very low
grade sound and seems to have gotten slightly louder over the last year. I have 65K
miles on it with no major problems.

It has an electric power steering system with no hydraulics so there is no power steering fluid reservoir.

OK.I would guess that the motor is getting bad?
Is this a common problem for these new electronic power steering systems? The car is only 5 years old. Could this be normal electric motor noise? I have read that the entire steering column will need to be replaced for the Sienna.
Just had my steering rack replaced. 2006 Sienna with 174,000 miles. Good to go now for another 150,000+
