Charging system warning indicator

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 ford edge. Last night the check
charging system indicator came on. Shortly there
after it died. I had someone charge the battery and
the charge held for a short distance and the car
died again. We noticed the main fuse on the red of
the battery has one side blown. When the positive
terminal was removed to check alternator, the
engine cut off. Is this because of the fuse being
half out of do I need to replace the alternator?
