Chevy traverse 2011 check engine light flashing then car not starting

Asked by badchevy11 Mar 18, 2017 at 10:06 PM about the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse 2LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

started having an issue with our 2011 Chevy
traverse at the end of a long road trip.  Check
engine light started flashing while driving.
Pulled over on the side of the road to turn off
car and restart as per manual.

Smelled a little like burned gas when I got out
of the car...

Car wouldn't start after that.  It would 'crank'
or sound like it was about to start but wouldn't
actual finish and complete starting.

The vehicle would need to be scanned for the trouble codes to know what to look at to fix. You may need to get it towed to a shop for repair if you are not capable of working on this.

I'm in a small town, the guy who towed it disconnected the battery terminal when we were trying to start it. after it was towed they said there are no codes in the computer. also the car starts now, right away. Did disconnecting the battery erase the codes? is there anything else on the vehicle that should be checked? I'm picking the car up tomorrow but still have another 7 hours to drive.

thank you, Jim. we got the codes this morning, p0089 fuel pressure regulator performance, p0154 low o2s activity bank 2 sensor 1 p0300 engine misfire detected p0302 cylinder 2 misfire detected p0304 cylinder 4 misfire detected Chevy dealer is over 70 miles away. are you suggesting I get it towed there as opposed to having a local mechanic diagnose and fix it? You can find a local shop, I'm sure you can find someone qualified to fix this, you would not have to go to a dealership for repair, that would be a lot more costly. Here is what is involved with what the trouble codes mean, the po300 code would cover the po302 & po304 codes...P0300 CHEVROLET - Cylinder Misfire Detected Random Cylinders...Possible causes; Faulty spark plug (s), Faulty ignition coil (s), Clogged or faulty fuel injector (s), Intake air leak, Fuel injectors harness is open or shorted, Fuel Injectors circuit poor electrical connection, Ignition coils harness is open or shorted, Ignition coils circuit poor electrical connection, Insufficient cylinders compression, Incorrect fuel pressure...The P0300 code means that a cylinder(s) is misfiring or is randomly misfiring. Start by checking for intake leaks, intake gaskets are common caused of multi-cylinder misfiring. If no leak are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs. If the problem persist more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem.......P0154 CHEVROLET - HO2S Circuit Insufficient Activity Bank 2 Sensor 1...Possible causes; Faulty Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2, Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 harness is open or shorted, Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection, Inappropriate fuel pressure, Faulty fuel injectors, Intake air leaks, Exhaust gas leaks...Replacing the Front Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 usually takes care of the problem.

thanks guys, mechanic is replacing ignition coil, spark plugs, and O2 sensor. said the fuel pressure measured ok so they were not thinking it was the fuel pressure regulator. hoping this will fix it.
