Problems with fuel gauge?

Asked by KEbillmeier Jun 16, 2015 at 03:02 PM about the 2011 BMW 3 Series 328i Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have run out of gas twice shortly after I get the low fuel warning. The computer says up
to 46 miles left to empty. Also the tire pressure light goes on without cause. Are these
regular problems and are they fixable?

When I first started driving (60 years ago) I learned not to rely on the fuel gauge. In Minnesota (cold weather) a 1/2 tank, of fuel, is considered a empty tank. You might get stuck someplace. I always know what my worst gas mileage (MPG) is and drive according to the odometer. When you fly you know your fuel burn rate and always land with a reserve. That way you have to think a little bit. But, you never run out of fuel.
