Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2006 has been sitting for several months. I changed the battery bcuz
when i tried to start it there wasnt any power. I bought a new battery, i turned
the key and the power came one....but as i did a complete turn, all the power
went away but as i turned it back, all the lights on the dashboard came on. I
turned it again and it all went dead. Is this a alternator issue or starter?

I suspect loose battery connections. Clean and tighten the battery cable ends.

I have a feeling it's your starter...

Agree w/ F_O_R sounds like a bad or corroded cable/ connection.

Do starters go bad when a car sits for a long time? Is it hard to change a cable by yourself? Im trying to keep costs low and see if i can do this by myself. Thanks for all your advice guys!

Typically a starter does not go bad because it sits. You indicated that you changed the battery. Was it a new battery? Take a close look at both cables with regards to corrosion and looseness.Generally, it's the positive terminal that has the corrosion. Focus on the terminals and connections for the battery cables. That's usually the most likely culprit. If the battery connections/cables are good, take the battery back and have them bench test it.

Yes. Brand new. Ok ill test out the cables by cleaning and such. Someone did tell me that some new batteries sit in stores so long that they go bad too so ill be taking that back as well to have them test or change it. Thanks so much bros! I'll let you know what happens after
