timing belt

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car with less than 77,000 miles, last timing belt change at 52.000 miles 12 years ago. low mileage driving each year. Does the age of the timing belt call for replacement?

Are you sure it is the Timing Belt you are talking about but not the more often replaced Accessory Belt? All BMW employ Timing Chain which should out last almost all engine components, ie. T-stat, water pump, alternator, etc. Timing Chain usually lasts the lifetime of the engine! The Accessory Belt, on the other hand, should be replaced every 50k miles, or when the above mentioned accessories fail.

Vince, thanks but the 2.5L enginne does have a timing belt. Any suggestions?

Hi, I am dealing in belts....scooter belts! Timing belts do suffer from temperature changes, no matter what mileage they do, so my answer is definetely yes... Fred
