BMW uses timing chains most of / if not all their cars check all data for chain replacement intervals at you local dealer

Your car does not use a timing belt. The M54 engine in your car has a timing chain, which should not need to be replaced until well over 200,000 miles.
Does this apply for a 2005 bmw325ci..? So no timing chain at 200k?
apbimmer98 answered 7 years ago
Yes, your car also has a timing chain. You shouldn't need to worry about replacing it.
Hi I have 2007 automat and 94 000km is good to change or no? Thx

If your car is also a 3 series, you have a timing chain and do not need to worry about replacing it.
Thank you. yes 3 series and I have the timing chain .. the thing is that.. sometimes I hear sound, but usually is ok no sound at all. Oil and filter changing every year. when is time/periode to replacing this chain..? Thank you

Is it usually when the engine is cold? That could be a Vanos rattle that you're hearing. If it sounds similar to this video, that's probably your problem. It's well covered in BMW forums like Bimmerforums and Bimmerfest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAyQBiV5GbI
Thank you again! Well on this video is sound or noise too much my sound is not so much as on video..and is just sometimes, so I dont know

It may be in the beginning stages, my 528i is like that too. It's not very noticeable while driving, only if you're listening under the hood. Keep an ear on it, but for now you're probably fine.
I have 318i, so well I think also.. Btw I will keep in touch whit you fo case:) thank you for help!
Hi my bmw has a high pitched noise when I start it cold then goes away when it warms up should I be worried ?
apbimmer98 answered 4 years ago
What kind of noise? It would be helpful to post a video to Youtube or something and link it here.
When would the chain belt be needed to be changed on a serious 3
apbimmer98 answered 4 years ago
No need to replace the timing chain on this car unless you’re having an issue.
I have a 318d 65 plate does this car have a belt or a chain ?
apbimmer98 answered 4 years ago
What year is that? I believe it should be a chain.
apbimmer98 answered 4 years ago
Ok, so you have the B47 engine. That's a timing chain.
I have a bmw 320d done 188k would u recommend doing the timing chain
apbimmer98 answered 4 years ago
No need unless you have a problem with it.
They is a slight tap so small not all the time just sometimes just worried about the engine blowing up
apbimmer98 answered 4 years ago
You would want to go through the proper process of diagnosing that issue before tearing into doing the timing chain.
Yeah I wish I knew what I was really doing because if I take it anywhere they are saying to old or chain needs doing just feed me a load off crock tbh
If anyone would like to look it over for me I will put some cash your way as well just to tell me the truth if I am honest
would just like to say that I am in the process of buying a high mileage BMW 320d se 57 plate my concern was the timing chain but after reading the straight forward answers on this site feel alot better about purchasing the car KR tvrtone
Hi apbimmer98 - I just bought a 2007 BMW 320I with 71k miles. Do I need to change the timing belt soon? Thank you!
Hi. I’m looking to buy a bmw 3 series however after reading various post about timing chain problems I don’t know if I should. If bmw state that it should last 200k miles, if it does go wrong will they rectify this? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
apbimmer98 answered 4 years ago
BMW 6 cylinders don't typically have timing chain issues. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
I have a bmw 325d se coupe 2011 anyone tell me if there a good reliable engine and if its cam belt or chain driven
we're going to look at 11 pale 3 series be interesting to know also about chain or belt
It is the TENSIONER for the chain that needs to be checked. It is NOT the chain
