Windows and Door Locking System???

Asked by shane0mac1 Nov 22, 2007 at 01:42 PM about the 1994 BMW 3 Series 318is Coupe RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1994 BMW 318is has power windows and locks. The windows work fine, but the locks are messed. When I turn the key from the outside, both drivers side and passengers side locks will work but after like 1 second they pop back up. I believe that the windows are connected as well because sometimes I will drive over a bump and the drivers side window will open the slighest bit(the amount that it opens when you open the door). Also, the door locks sometimes randomly pop up and down while im driving.... anyone got any ideas???? Im thinking ive got a short somewhere but that is a very redundant ficture

Sounds like a possible problem with the relays that would control the power locks and windows. I would have the relays checked for function, this is going to take some diagnostic time, and a good mechanic to figure it out. Electrical problems are the worst. This could also be a problem with the BCM, body control module, that controls functions like auto locking, etc. The bumping causing windows to drop could be indicative of a loose or faulty connection at the BCM responding to road vibrations.
