If you wanted to spend a hundred dollars, you could have a non-destructive 26 point inspection...they'd be able to tell you if there were evidence of a prior wreck....welded from pieces....could tell you the condition of the brakes...wet and dry comparative compression test and emissions....look to the timing chain or belt for deterioration of the "wear shoe" or uneven tension from a worn idler pulley on the timing belt....all electrical devices...bulbs....amount of C0...N02 and water vapor in the exhaust...and all the twenty six or so points of inspection....just to be sure...I remember at the shop we'd perform this inspection....hoping to find something that needed replacing...like a clutch or worn tires or tie rods....something simple...loved to do the inspections~
This is a good price for a '01 BMW- makes me suspicious- the Judge is right- make sure there is nothing seriously wrong with it- if there is, it could ruin your day
The price good. Maybe too good. I would definitely have the 26 point inspection or take it to someone who knows BMW s and have it thoroughly gone over. The standard shift concerns me a bit only because of the previous owner might not have known how to shift properly and there might be clutch damage or shifter damage. Also as you probably know, they are very expensive to maintain and repair. As a side note, 2 studies, one in the UK the other here in the US found that BMW drivers were the most self entitled, rude and aggressive drivers out there. They were also voted the most disdained drivers by everyone else. The blue ones were voted the worst. Just an interesting factoid. Good luck though, and get the inspection.
