Turns in a higher resolution and won’t start been sitting parked for 4 months

Asked by Yelda Apr 01, 2019 at 12:34 AM about the 2002 BMW 3 Series 325xi Sedan AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car has been sitting for 4 months. I started it up
6 weeks ago. I tried to do the same today and it
won’t turn over. Instead it sounds like a high
resolution spinning. Is it the timing chain? It has
185000miles on it and I am not the original owner. I
am the 4th owner of my car. Please help

Maybe the starter solenoid rusted up causing the starter not to engage. Smack it with a mallet (not too hard) and see if that helps.
