Asked by Ronnie Jun 14, 2015 at 01:33 AM about the 2002 BMW 3 Series 330Ci Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

If I push the button the gears move a little then
stops. With the top down I push the button
and the lock unlocks but that is all that
happens.

Try resetting the engine motors in the trunk. It sounds like they became unsynced. Search on youtube on how to sync the motors. It is really a bitch to do.

I am having the same problem with my 05 325 ci the top will open half way then the back cover will not open and it gets stuck there and will not close . if you turn off your key the hydraulics will relax then it will close . one video showed broken wires where the top folds , I have not checked mine yet.

Check the hydraulic fluid level. If it is low you have a leak.

No no no, its the trunk compartment that stores the convertible top when it is down. That compartment is "up" to store more stuff in your trunk. There is a large black handle right under the right side of the rear window in the trunk ceiling. Open the handle, fold down the "boot" to hold the convertible top then close the handle. The top should go down right away. No burned out fuse. Easy peasy!!!

Some handles are under the rear seat on the driverside. And when the red light flashes, it means the handle has been pulled or somehow the top has been put in Manuel mode, and will stay like that till you get it out of Manuel mode, and there's a manuel crank tool in the trunk with the tools to change the tire, so you can manually put the top down. The place to put the tool ( which looks like a bent allen wrench) is in the center of the Conv. top closest to the front windshield. Brought to you by Woody's Garage. San Bernardino
