Ask the person for official reports of the repairs. Definitely test drive the car and put it through some stress tests to make sure everything's working ok. Give the body of the car a thorough overview, including mechanical and structural components to make sure there's no leaks or cracks anywhere. If everything looks ok, you'll have to take the guy's word for it. Otherwise, maybe find another BMW you're a little more sure about.
