Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1999 bmw 528i, having temp problems... when the car is going down the road its runs in the normal temp range. hen I stop at a light or idle it starts to climb into the red zone. and is the fan blades suppose to blow more into the radiator or the engine? it appears to be more fan air blowing towards the engine and not the radiator. could fan blades be turned the wrong way?  THANKS

Yea tom is right. If you absolutely have to drive your vehicle, top off the coolant then when you begin to drive turn on you heater full blast. That should bring temp down a little. And yea you are going to get a little warm, but it is better than damaging your engine any further.I would not drive a long distance, and oh yea TURN OFF THE A.C.!GOOD LUCK!!!!

The water pumps are notorious for going bad. Also, with all of the ABS components under the hood, you could have a leak, even from a bleeder screw, which is ABS. Coolant reservoirs go bad as well. What kind of mileage do you currently have? Your electric fan on the exterior of the radiator could also be bad or jammed.
