Does anyone know how much it would cost to get a new engine for my 2000 528i BMW? Its an awesome car! Discontinued Siena Red color never in an accident and excellent condition. Just had its 60 mile check up and the dealership screwed it up the car over heated and now they are saying I need a new engine. HELP!

Depending on how you want to replace the engine will depend on your pricing. You can find a great used engine on line which may run you between $700 to &2500 Just for the engine, Then you have to figure in the labor costs which vary from area to area, My guess is that you will pay at least $90 per hour labor. Also depending on what other accessories need replacing will factor costs as well, Be prepared to spend at least $3k to $5K unless your a DYI type and can get a few guys to come and help. Hope this helps.

Check out www.bmwparts.com for the engine. Then google mechanics in your area and do some comprehensive shopping. The web is a great tool in finding parts and services that will fit your budget and reliability needs. Good luck.
I had a 1999 BMW 528i. The 2.8 liter engines are plentiful as BMW used it in both the 3-series and 5-series. I purchased a good used engine from a salvage yard for $750 and had it installed for $1200 including tune-up on replacement engine. I live in California but you should have no problems procuring a good used engine from a salvage yard in New Jersey. Just make sure your engine has VANOS or non-VANOS engine as the first engine I received was the incorrect.
I would be A) contacting my attorney, and B) contacting the dealership manager asking for some resolution prior to buying a motor; unless you are looking for a value for them to replace it.
totally agree with the attorney part, i believe that you can get a good used one from salvage as said, but you have to look for low mileage car

I spoke to the head of service at the BMW dealership where i bought my car and they are telling me they can install a used engine in the car for 11,000.00 but no guarentee that once the engine is in and the car will need more stuff. UGH! They say a new engine will cost me 35,000.00. I think these are insane prices. Right?
Did you contact an attorney yet? That would be the best route, like I had suggested prior. Good luck!
Seriously anybody know what it cost to put a new engine and cooling system in a 2000 528i im asking about everything new under the hood

Those are ridiculous prices. If you are going to go through the "stealership" you may as well buy a new car
ALL OF YOU GOT DUPED. Ive driven BMW's all my life...They have salavge yards all over america..anywho when the engine was jacked in my 95..I bought an engine from a slavage yard that I got off of CAR-PARTS.com..it pulls up every salvage yard in the US and then the list goes from most expensive to least..got and engine for $250 plus $75 to overnight and I paid the mexican guys at durangos here in atlanta to put it in..had it 13 years. About to buy one from a guy now..he's asking a $1000 for the car because his engine is gone...the body and interior are banging...I offred him $700..he wants $800..still thinking on it. I try to learn as much as I can regarding any car that I drive...seeing as I'm a woman and they THINK they can get over..NOT. Also Look up the BMW shop in Braselton Georgia..they have acres of BMW from M3's on...GOOD L:UCK
