Problem with 2001 BMW 540i (E39) 6-Speed

Asked by Mish540i Apr 01, 2015 at 11:49 AM about the 2001 BMW 5 Series 540i Sedan RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It accelerates and shifts like normal when driving like an "old lady". But when I attempt
to punch it anymore than quarter throttle the revs spike and the acceleration does not
match. It feels as if i am still feathering the clutch when my left foot is completely off
the pedal. As I let up on the gas pedal the engine seems to catch up with the rpms. It
even struggles at times on medium sized hills with the same issue. There is no
clunking or weird sounds when shifting gears. I always have fixed my general car
issues on my own but this is way over my head. Just hoping that someone can help
me out with a little bit of knowledge or set me in the right direction. It's parked until i
can figure out the remedy because I worry that if I continue to drive it in it's current
condition it may damage other components of the vehicle. PLEASE HELP!
