Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 BMW five series with 200,000
miles. It needs a new transmission which will
cost $4500-$5000. Should I go on and repair
it, or sell it and buy another car?

It depends on how much you like the car, really. If it makes sense versus what you would pay to replace the car, by all means, go for it and replace the transmission. However if you aren't attached to the car and you could find a good replacement for cheaper, it may be time to cut your losses.
