Lock cylinders are replaceable, Why did the shop tell you the vehicle requires a new steering column, They can't turn it to the ON position to remove the old cylinder..Right? Do you have another KEY or only the one which will not turn?. Need all the information.Regards

I put the key in and tapped it. Disconnected the battery, put the key in and wiggle the steering wheel. Nothing unlocked it. Charlotte mechanic said 2500. to replace and get new key.

do you have any help for this problem? How do I remove the cylinder?
get a second opinion- with a GOOD garage- if you need a new ignition switch, it should not require replacing the whole steering column-
