Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 2008 BMW 528i with 13k miles from an
Auction  for 5600$. I never knew that I could have it
checked out before purchasing.  The computer
indicates that it needed new brake pads. I had
them replaced. It has no gas cap and the
passenger window stopped rolling down. Now the
computer indicates that there is a cooliant
problem.  It seems that I'm in need of an engine
overhaul.  I want to sale it for 4000$ how much
should an engine overhaul cost me?

Do you think that it would be best to re auction it? That's what I am leading too.

I wouldn't be so hasty to sell it. From the sounds of it, you got a pretty good deal. Just go through basic maintenance on the car (oil change, coolant flush, etc.) since it is a low mileage car that's almost 10 years old. Of course, get a gas cap and a passenger window regulator, and those two issues will be fixed. DO NOT OVERHEAT THE CAR! You will cause serious damage. Assuming it hasn't already been overheated and it's running well, you don't need to do anything drastic to the engine. I would bring it to a BMW shop (NOT a chain shop, as Js08016 said) if you don't feel comfortable doing your own work on the car. Otherwise, there are a couple of things it could be. Make sure your coolant is full, for one. Your thermostat could be at fault, or it could be that your water pump has failed. We would need more information to further help you with that.
