hey kathy, it actually depends on the year: the 740 was carried from 1995-2001 with the v8 740iL and the v12 750iL. from 2002-2005 bmw had the v8 745Li and the v12 760Li; and from 2006-present bmw has the 750Li and the 760Li. basically, you can tell which body style the vehicle is by seeing if it is LI or IL; IL being the older one. hope this isnt too conufsing

Hi Kathy! Big question ... The BMW 7 series dates back to 1977 spanning 4 generations of cars. From 1977 to 1986 BMW offered these models: 725i, 728, 728i/iS, 730, 730i, 732i, 733i, 735i, 745i Turbo and L7 ... Only the 733i, 735i, and L7 were available in America ... After 1987 they offered the 730, 735, and 750 as the 3.0, 3.5, and 5.0L models and each could be have in a "stretched version with an L designation. That generation lasted until 2001 when the current generation of 7-series cars were released ... The model numbers still designate engine size with the 740 being a 3.9L engine. By the way that engine is a diesel engine (should be noted as a 740d) available only in Europe as far as I can tell. The 750 is a 4.8L engine and sold in America. Hope that helps!

i think the info posted is somewhat wrong bmw 740i has 4 liter engine... ya if but u r talking abt the displacement volume then it is slightly less... every engine has some clearance volume.....and 750i has a full 5 liter engine.... which displaces 4,988 cc..

Does 2000 reg 750i L AUTO has the same parts as the 2000 reg 735i or even 2000 reg 728i Parts include: susspension, bonnet and both sides, kidney grill, bumper, radiotor, filter and any other that i may have forgotten. I will really need to talk to someone who is really good mechanic and knows everything about BMW cars model E38 Thank you so much

Remember: before 2003, the 7 series were il....after 2003 the last 2 letters were switched to li. A 1988 740il in the USA is a 8cyl, while a 1988 750il is a 12cyl. The 2006 750li is a 8cyl but a '06 760li is a 12cyl.
