The car will only go into reverse, do you
think the transmission is gone bad?

I have an 06 760i. I used to downshift with the paddles when I came over a large bridge to my area. I wore out the 4th and 5th gear friction plates and then the care would not go into gear. BMW wanted $10k to repair. I got it done in Los Angeles for $5000. The entire valve body has to be replaced and it retails from BMW for $3000+.
