2011 Ford escape tie rod outer ends

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 Ford escape I am working on tie rod
ends. The tie ends have a single screw with a
regular nut. Been to auto zone, orielys, advance
Auto, all have the same part, the tie rod end with
the crown nut and cotter pin. I tried it, it doesn't fit.
The screw is shorter then the other. Thought I
found it on 1a auto.com they sent me the same
end the others had.  I am guessing that the newer
parts belong to newer parts. Is there a difference
between the rounded inner tie rod and the newer
tie rod end?

From what I can see, the parts really are the same dimension. The used part has the rubber boot compressed down from having been installed. The new part will do the same and should fit. Go ahead and install it and you will see what I mean as you wrench in down on that tapered stud. And the new part is better and safer having the cotter pin to lock the nut in place. The original must have been a compression nut to speed production....one less installation step....the cotter pin.
