How do you know if your rack and pinion needs to be replaced?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Its a 2011 Ford Fusion. The wheel is tough
to turn but for all I know is that the power
steering assist fault is on and service
advance trac is on as well

It is the electric power steering pump, not the rack,if there is no play in steering,

I have to use alot of muscle to turn the wheel but it turns

Jack car front up both side,s,crank car,if it turns, easy it want be the rack,when you set it back on ground turn it,if tite as you say,it whell be the eletric pump,if it is hard to turn off the ground,it will be the rack.
