2002 Cadillac Deville overheating
Bought a 2002 Cadillac Devile, over heats. It had a cracked radiator (old owner had used a hose clamp instead of a hose spring). Replaced the radiator, and it still over heats. Replaced thermostat (twice) and water pump. The mechanic says that it DOES NOT leak/loose ANY antifreeze what so ever.
During all this the mechanic had to flush it several times, as the old owner used a ton of bars stop leak in it, and that crud just kept coming out. He can drive it upwards of 60 miles, and then it starts to overheat, but it can do it anytime over 20 miles (not not under 20 miles). He says that he can "modulate" the overheating just by taking it out of overdrive. What that has to do with it stumps both of us, but it does it.
He also found an air intake leak on the manifold intake (which I already knew about), and replaced the reservoir cap. He cleaned out the catalytic converter, thinking it might be the cause. That helped to increase power, but it didn't solve the overheating issues. He replaced the coolant sensor. And lastly, he found a mouse nest and 2 dead mice [somewhere] behind the throttle body, along with and some frayed wires, which he now suspects might be the problem (basically an electrical problem), because he thought the engine acted like the timing was retarding a bit too much (power loss).
