We have an SUV with a towing capacity of 3500 lbs and want to tow a trailer that weighs 2780 lbs. Once we're packed for travel will this be too much weight for the SUV?

Question type: General

We will be packing anything unusually heavy. We have a class 3 hitch and have
been told that up-grading to a class 4 hitch will increase the capacity to 5000
lbs.  Is this true?

1 Answer

Probably not true. Your vehicle can only tow so much. The hitch could be rated for 10,000 pounds but that is only the hitch, not the SUV. Check your owners manual for towing information.
