What does the BJT sensor do on a Ford F-350 dually, diesel?

Asked by Whistler67 Apr 14, 2013 at 04:44 PM about the 2011 Ford F-350 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab LB DRW 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My F-350 dually lost  power when accelerating while pulling my 1400# fifth wheel trailer. Heard a loud noise and speed slowed to a crawl with jerking motion at first.  Ford dealer tech said they thought it might be the BJT sensor.  Just wanted to know what the BJT sensor did.

No clue what the BJT sensor is.Since this is a diesel, it could be the blow off valve.

Correction: I was pulling my 14000# 5th wheel trailer. Thanks for the suggestion on the blow off valve. I'll ask the Ford Tech rep on Monday.

There is no bjt sensor that i can think of. Do you perhaps meean vgt? It doesnt have a blow off valve.

Sounds like maybe a turbo pressure hose blew off that would make a loud noise and you would lose power

that is true it is under warranty. but i guess the 6.7 doesnt have a vgt 6.4 did. but none the less it was a solenoid for the varible turbo. so dunno what they are talking about but they will fix it under warranty whatever the problem may be.

I have a 2006 f350 diesle 6.0 / 2 wheel drive /dually, flatbed. I have a no crank no start problem right now. Sometimes it starts first try. Then sometimes it takes 10, 15 or 20 turns off the key. So I'm currently working on a diagnoses for that. I had all ready had the steering wheel dropped down and checked all bolts and bushings and what not,,,no problems there, I'm next going to check the for neutral safety switch. Not much info online that I could find for the switch. I think it's inside the transmision. So your issue you had with the loss of power. I was getting on to the freeway, and accelerating like normal and all of a sudden the truck pretty much was in a limp mode. It ran and sounded fine but when I pressed the gas peddal it wouldnt go over 15 miles an hour. So I made it off the freeway and pulled over to see the problem but turned off the engine. I let it cool for a 15 min then checked under the hood and found the little two prong electrical plug had got unplugged from the turbo. I plugged it back In and was all fixed.
