If your car stalls when you get the wrench sign, you may need a new throttle body assembly. There seems to be an issue with that!

Looking at car-part,com which lists about every recycling yard in the country roughly $300 and up tons more new Learn how to clean it (youtube) fairly easy without removing as can most parts in this engine. Always use correct cleaner for each part.

Try changing the transmittion fluid. Mine was stalling so we changed the throttle and it was still happening , so we changed the transmittion fluid and that did the trick.

This is a common problem with most Ford Freestyles as per the other forums I have read. Reason for Ford to discontinue this model. I was having the same problem, wrench symbol and check engine lights on. I noticed that it all started on a cold day (Manitoba, Canada weather during fall and winter). I just bought mine on June of this year by the way. I tried cleaning the throttle body using throttle cleaner, no luck. I tried clearing/resetting the error codes by disconnecting the battery for several minutes, still no luck. I have a remote starter installed and run the engine two 15-minute run time with 30 minutes gap before driving. The wrench symbol is not showing anymore (hopefully won't come back on) but the engine light is still there but I can drive my freestyle with no issues. It's a guessing game. I think it has something to do with the transmission fluid during cold weather. I am taking it to a local auto shop to have transmission fluid flush and put the type of fluid that ford recommends.

I have a 2007 Ford freestyle and the wrench light comes on after driving it about 200miles or more and I lose power. I pull over, turn off the engine, press the fuel reset button behind the glove box, wait about 10 minutes and that will make the light go away. This is only a temporary solution until I can figure out what is going on with this vehicle.
