Can I put the engine from a 2007 F150 into a
1997 F150

This is not the same engine. The 97 is a 2V version of the Triton. The 2007 is a 3V.

2 valves per cylinder or 3 valves per cylinder. The 3V engines have the infamous cam phaser problem. There are also other possible differences since Ford made different Triton versions in different engine plants that are not the same.

Most likely you will also have transmission/ECU incompatibility issues since the 2007 transmission is also different from the 1997.
