98 Cadillac deville Sudan fwd

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok so I have a 98 Cadillac Deville that was
loosing coolant. It started out as a slow leak
somewhere but wasn’t visible. I looked for
leaks and nothing. It progressed into a pretty
good sized leak to where I was loosing
coolant and had to put at least 2 gallons in
almost every day. All of a sudden at an idle it
was blowing white exhaust smoke. Little by
little, then progressed to a bad smoke. I knew
I had an interior leak somewhere. I started
tearing my motor apart and saw that the
intake manifold gasket was deteriorating and
that’s where the leak was. Because of that,
that caused the white smoke out the tailpipe.
I replaced the gaskets and the engine had to
cycle all the coolant out that leaked into the
intake. Also that is what was causing the
coolant to get extremely hot and cause the
car to overheat. After replacing the gaskets
the car runs and drives great.
