Rebuild a transmission?

Asked by dogg313 May 26, 2017 at 08:18 AM about the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 Suburban 4WD. It needs a
transmission. Dealer says $3900. Local mechanic I
know says $1850. Is there a better way to do it?

I probably would use the dealer. They know what they are doing, generally speaking. Also the dealership warranty may be better.

I doubt the cheaper price includes replacing all the electrical components in the transmission which leaves other things to fail. If possible get the details of what each price includes before deciding. If you are going to keep the Suburban go with the better quality job.
