Pressure in my gas tank?????

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Putting gas in my 2011 GMC Terrain the pump kept cutting off as if the tank
were full when it was not. I was told that this is because of pressure in my tank.
Is this true and what can be done to resolve this issue?

Simply put, there's more air pressure going in than coming out. Could be a slightly plugged vent line running back up from tank to fuel door

Also you could reduce the pressure going in by manually holding the pump trigger at a lower position than the handle can hold on its own

Punch a hole in the bottom of what, my gas tank??? If it is a slightly plugged vent line, how can that be alleviated? I did fill the tank manually but it took some time as I did not hold the lever fully only partially.

Easiest when low on fuel so that you don't have to worry about dumping any. Its pretty simple, just disconnect the hoses running from tank to filler neck and make sure they're clear. Shine light in the tubes at tank to confirm that its clean, same with the filler neck
