2011 GMC Sierra 1st gear idol trouble

Asked by Millerk123 Jan 20, 2018 at 12:49 PM about the 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Ext. Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, my 2011 GMC Sierra started to slip in second
and third gear, but only a couple times per day. I
took it in to my local shop where they told me the
filter was clogged on the tranny and they won't
replace that and change fluid. That was today. He
warned me it might cause harm then good. Now 2
hours later it won't stay in first gear at a stop sign. I
have to give it rpm to engage. Same with reverse,
only engages with a tap on the runs and bumps
into gear.... any help is appreciated.
The auto place wants to do a rebuild I cannot
afford.

well, sounds like a internal problem. but the cheapest way to find out is change the fluid and filter and see it helps, if not you know were you stand.

I'm sorry my auto texted changed some words. The fluid was changed, the filter on tranny was changed. It just seems weird to me that if the rpms stay around 800 to 1000 it stay in 1st gear fine. But when I stop at a light and drop the rpms to 600 it diengages.
