What's stopping my 2011 GMC Sierra 1500, 5.3L, 4WD from shifting into gear after starting
Sometimes when I start my 2011 Sierra, it won't let me shift it into gear.

Safety switch is getting worn out or looseness in the cable connection and/or the position switch. Something not telling the computer that you have your foot on the brake pedal and you are shifting it into gear.
