Faulty horse trailer wiring causes speed limiter to engage in Nissan Navara?

Asked by René Jan 05, 2018 at 11:45 AM about the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder S V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

With horse trailer behind Nissan Navara ('11) speed doesn't get above 80
km/hrs. Swapping cable and/or adaptor doesn't make a difference. Removing
cable with same trailer allows better acceleration and no limits in speed
anymore. Same cable, adaptor but different trailer also resolves the issue, so
fault analysis points towards the trailer wiring.

My question: does it make sense that the car switches to speed limiter due to
faulty wiring? If so, any suggestions to fix this? A quick visual check of the
trailer lights show that all seems OK.

Thank you for your time and even a response if possible.

Hey F_O_R, assuming you refer to whether the trailer parking brake is engaged: no, it isn't .

Good recommendation so tnx. The trailer brakes are mechanical and hence not connected to the wiring harness. I still fail to understand how the trailer electrical system can cause the car to switch on the speed limiter...

Some sort of feed back that screws up the operation. Don't worry about it, just fix the trailer wiring.
