2011 jeep liberty won't start

Asked by megan Dec 10, 2019 at 02:49 PM about the 2011 Jeep Liberty Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2 nights ago, I got to the store, shut the jeep off. When I
came out to leave, it wouldn't start. It tried to start when I
turned the key, it just seemed like it was missing
something to let it start. Tried to give it gas, still wouldn't
start. No prior problems, noises or any smoke leading up
to this point and nothing like that while I tried to start. Got
it towed to a repair shop, they say it's the lower bearings in
the crankshaft and I need an engine. Could it possibly be
the fuel pump instead? 2 people that I have had look at it
do not think the shop diagnosed it correctly and I will try
other repairs before getting a new engine.

Definitely get a second opinion before you let this shop swap your engine. Engine failures like this are typically simple and I think the shop that gave you the estimate is looking for a good Christmas! First, check your battery and make sure it is healthy (along with all cable connections to and from it). Then see if your fuel pump is delivering fuel to the engine, next determine if you have spark to ignite the fuel. also, have the engine scanned for trouble codes that may be hinting at the problem source. Good luck.

I'm getting it towed somewhere else, we are going to scan for codes tomorrow and check fuel pump. Battery is all good. Thanks for your advice!
