rough sound/struts/shocks?

Question type: General

I have noticed that my 2011 Subaru Tribeca is very rough sounding over any street bump, manhole, or our cobble stone street that we live on. It is very aggravating as I would like to have a nice smooth sound when driving and not hearing like I am driving over logs!  Has anyone else had this problem? I wonder if changing the struts or shocks or whatever it has would help?

My Subaru Forester has a fairly firm ride and I am guessing that you like a soft ride but most cars these days have a firm ride to improve the cars handling. Cobble stone streets are going to be a really, really tough surface to get a smooth quiet road on even with a Cadillac, Jaguar or Rolls Royce. You could shop around for soft shocks and lower your tire pressure to the minimum but cobblestones? Good luck. Have you ever had a car that rode smoothly and quietly over cobblestones? I doubt it.

You're either not used to the Tribeca OE suspenbsion or you're seeing wear of the swaybar links, bushing-clearance clacking, or even rarely a tire rod end. So check this simple cheap stuff first. In NO EVENT would I suggest replacing struts nor springs on what is already a borderline-control suspension.
