correct with the wires under seat,that is. left side and right side one or other

good idea Jim, just swap the connectors passenger to driver~ that might do it!

You have a open condition in the drivers side seat belt wiring circuit. Check the electrical connectors that are attached to the seat belt receptacle.
on some units its a closed ,as a Toyota wiring cuts the light by unplugging the small jack under seat
