odometer reads - 4-07 and i cant get it to go back to read the miles again

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My chrysler 300 odometer  reads - 4-07 and i cant get it to go back to read the miles again. I took it to autozone and they said its not displaying a trouble code so they dont know what is causing it to read - 4-07. I think my son may have messed with it somehow. On some vars you can push in the odometer button and turn the ignition and it will display different information. im not sure if this is the case but i am sure i can not getthe odometer to read the miles again. please help becuse its driving me crazy and i dont know when its time to do an oil change. lol thanx in advance for any suggestions. ps- by the way i have not disconnected the negative cable to the battery cuz im not sure if this will clear it or make matters worse. let me know please.. thannk you all! -- Veronica

just disconnect the battery and see what happens. it wont hurt anything. if that doesnt work then i say just take it to a certified chrysler dealer. they will know exactly what it is and should be able to give you a price quote to fix it without charging you.

I see your post is quite old. you must have resolved this issue. I had a similar problem on my 2005 300 Touring...the code was -3-61. I went nuts trying to fix the problem...imagine Chrysler's dealerships had not clue whatosever...I researched, and thanks to the Internet, I found the fix....Just press and hold dowm the trip reset button until the odometer/temperature displays appear. That simple.... The Chrysler dealership wanted to tamper with the wiring in the instruments cluster, but I refused..Their trouble shooting was to continue for hours (perhaps days) until the problem was found! The cost? Dont even ask- DAVIS

@davis6793 How long did that take... It isn't working on my 06 Magnum after holding for over a minute.

OK What has happened here is the Diagnostic procedure was not entered properly and it's stuck. It's my own fault for not reading first. Follow the below reset and when it's done the problem will be solved. Cluster Range Diagnostic. (Works on all LX models) 1) Be sure key is set to the 'OFF' position. 2) Press and hold the 'Trip Meter Reset' button. 3) Turn the key to 'ON' position. The gauges will step through the whole range. If your gauge is acting funny, this is an easy way to see if it's the sender or the gauge. Be patient, when you see 'Done' turn off the key. Problem fixed.
