chrysler 300 won't start or starter won't engage

Asked by slybozwell May 26, 2015 at 09:53 AM about the 2006 Chrysler 300 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We have a 2006 Chrysler 300 with a 2.7 liter V-6. Has an almost new battery. When you turn the key, all the lights on the dash light up but starter will not engage. Doesn't even make a clicking sound as if battery is dead. Red dot on dash is lit which indicates that the security system is armed according to the service manual. We've tried all the suggestions from the manual to no avail. What could be causing this. Car ran fine on Sunday, but would not start on Monday.

Another forum talked about replacing the #9 relay in the panel in the engine compartment for delayed starting problems. Price around $20 at Advance Auto Parts.

Car clicking but not starting is 1 of 3 possible issues: 1• needs new battery. Either call AAA or make it to nearest auto zone & get battery checked, it takes 2-6 minutes and is free with both AutoZone & AAA (if u have AAA membership) 2• needs new starter. If car clicks but all lights & gauges are fine, then the battery is fine but the starter needs to be checked out. 3• if both the starter AND the battery are fine then you're in luck! It's most likely just loose/faulty wiring or fuse. Time consuming but relatively cheap. MY issue was embarrassingly simple to fix. After getting a new battery AND a new starter (unnecessarily) my 2000 Chrysler 300M was still having the same problem - turning over and starting up just fine, but then engine turns off 2-5 seconds after flawless start-up. It was the F***** KEY! Or more precisely, the chip inside the key. So I just went and got a new set made with a new chip & NEVER had the issue again!!!! Had this issue with: 1999 Chrysler Sebring 2000 Chrysler 300M 2001 Chrysler 300M 2002 Dodge Stratus 2004 Dodge Intrepid .... As you can tell, I LOVE this car/body style and can't get over it but after 5 versions of, essentially, the same car - I CAN speak from experience and I'm now a self-proclaimed mechanic lol. I've also had a 1995 Mercury grand Marquis - a 1999 Dodge Durango V8 Magnum engine & a 2003 Dodge Magnum. I NOW know these vehicles inside out. I hope this has helped SOMEONE.

Its probably the ignition switch, does the ignition feel different when you turn the key to on position. It lost its spring on the start position. Look there possibley be that.

I have a Chrysler 300 2006. At first the car was cranking over but would not start . I replaced the camshaft sensor and the fuel pump. Still same problem. Today I did the crank shaftsensor. Now the starter makes a whining sound but car won’t crank over. Originally I was told the sensor was behind the starter so I pulled the starter and found out it wasn’t. I put the starter back up and then did the crank shaft sensor. Please any help would be appreciated

Idk what's wrong with 2006 Chrysler 300 after having misfire when accelerating after month's had worsened and started smelling this burnt oil smell or everytime I turn on the a.c. the car bounces like im in a 1952 pick-up truck, I had changed the spark plugs, seafoam in the gas tank, and 4 bottles of oil in it with no help over issue. Then just shut down while driving like it ran out of gas but has half a tank and now wont start or any power in the gas pedal when trying to start. Everything lights up and engine makes noise tho just wont turnover and fully ignite... Awhile back my friend put the spare key in the ignition trying to move it. I have issues with it often starting but normally does after taking the key out and repeating a few times so idk if that may be reason after seeing similiar problems in the question/ answers on here??

omg i have to type it all over again!!! ahh! so i have the 2006 chrysler 300 touring edition. turns out there is a short in the fusible link. go figure, i have traced this wire and it lands under the car, in between the starter and the fuse panel. the wires leading up to the starter were so coroaded (idk how to spell it) that they practically crumbled in my hand. I would check all your power wires at each location you can get to.
