2011 Silverado, STABILITRAK, TRACTION CONTROL, runs rough

Asked by Av8erGuy Dec 29, 2016 at 07:02 PM about the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2011, Chevy Silverado 1500.  When driving at cruise control
for extended periods, 1hr+, I get several issues:
1) Cruise control kicks off,
2) engine powered reduces,
3) engine runs rough,
4) dash notification:
  - check engine light comes on
  - SERVICE STABILITRAK text
  - ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED text
  - SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL text.
After shutting the vehicle down, and attempting to restart, the
engine continues to run rough. However, if I wait a couple of
minutes before restarting, the text goes away in the engine
appears to run normally. After another hour or so of regular
driving, without using the cruise control, the check engine light
goes off. This has happened multiple times where cruise
control was being used for extended periods.

I just worked on a similar problem, Reduced Engine Power was on, that had all the same symptoms as this. It ended up being the TPS (throttle positioning sensor) and wiring plugin. The wires break internally at the plugin, and the wiper arms / brushes inside the TPS fray / separate, so as to not send the correct voltages. The TPS I purchased automatically came with a new wire harness plug that needs to be spliced into the original wiring. When there is an engine code that relates to this matter your cruse control will not work.

If you scan the vehicle for codes, anywhere from p1515 to p1519 will come up. I'll bet p1516 comes up.
