Dealer Caused Timing Cover Leak?
in Nov of 2017 I took this vehicle to dealer to resolve Airbag Recall issue.
They also did a multi-point inspection for other issues. When I returned to
pick up the car, I was advised that engine had an oil leak in the timing chain
cover. They recommended replacement of the cover. When I said we have
never had oil on the garage floor, he replied that it was a slow leek. I
declined to have the cover replaced at that time. when I drove the car home,
I first parked outside and inspected the garage floor for oil drips. No drips or
splatters were found on floor at that time. Pulled the vehicle in the garage
that evening. Next morning pulled the car out of garage and did find an oil
smudge at that time. Since that time, oil smudges have multiplied. Tires
seem to pick up drippings and spread them around.
I suspect the dealer did something like loosen some cover bolts enough to
cause a slow leak.
Has anyone else had an experience like this on any Toyota vehicle?
