2007 ford taurus automatic transmission stop going forward anf reverse

Taurus has a bad torque converter design. The pump shaft strips the spline plate out in the TC and ends up spinning freely. Symptoms: no response when shifting into any gear selection. May hear a whining noise from engine/trans. Check the trans fluid with the engine off (should read high) then again with the engine at idle in park, fluid should read between the hash marks on the dipstick, if it reads high the pump is not turning due to the above problem. Most shops don't want to just replace a TC, cause shaving may have also gotten in the trans and may cause a failure at some point, so they'll quote for replacing the TC and replace or rebuilding the transmission.
