2007 Ford Taurus coolant leak.

Asked by Ariel1027 Jan 23, 2017 at 04:08 AM about the 2007 Ford Taurus SE Fleet

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Ford Taurus that leaks antifreeze
pretty bad. Started off as a slow leak and never
overheated so I let my dad and fiance drive it until
hunting season ended as long as they kept water in
it so it wouldn't over heat(bad idea I know)  anyway
I can see it on the ground after im parked for just a
little while and my oil looks fine so I don't think it's
my head gasket but the leak got so bad it doesn't
hold water barely at all and when you open the
hood it has to be dripping on the serpentine belt
because it literally sprays up in your face. I parked
it and havnt been driving it (also because in kinda
snowed in anyhow) but I need to know if anyone
has any idea what's wrong or where I should look
for the leak if that's the case? I live in a tiny town
up in the mountains and I don't trust the mechanic
shops here cuz they are dumb as hell...I just need
an idea so I know how much money to have got
parts and ECT. So when the snow is gone I can
drive again... And im not sure if it's an Se or SEL
does it make a difference?

Ok, here to help. I suspect the water pump is leaking out of the weep hole, dripping onto the serpentine belt when it is running and spraying you in the face. Depending on what water pump goes on your engine, I see them starting at $35 for the one, and the other is around $80. So you would need like 2 gal, 3 to be safe of 50/50 coolant/anti-freeze when doing the job. Figure labor cost in if you pay someone to do it.

Or also it may be just a hose that is bad. Just need to determine where exactly the leak is coming from. I would suggest replacing the serpentine belt as the one that is on there now is contaminated and will cause you problems. When the belt is off your gonna want to check for worn idler pulleys, belt tensioner since the belt would have to come off. Any pulley that is not replaced should be cleaned for the new belt. You can get a new belt for like $35, or I see a kit that has the pulleys and belt tensioner for around $100.
