Valve replacement cause for Volkswagen CC 2012 ??

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hi there,
I am currently having an issue with Volkswagen dealership service department.
I replaced the tensioner 3 months ago for $1100 and after that, the car drove
fine. 2 weeks ago my car was shaking heavily and barely drives. I took it to the
Volkswagen dealership and they first thought it's a carbon buildup ($530) then
once the carbon was cleaned they found that the engine valve, the one next to
the timing chain/belt, is bent(+$850) extra!! I googled the cause and found that
the cause for a valve failure is incorrect placement of the belt!.
My Question: could the cause be their work 3 months ago because he was
telling me that if it was their fault, the valve would break immediately after the
chain placement!! is that true and if so how could the valve just break out of
nowhere!

They should have replaced the chain/ belt when doing the tensioner. Didn't they suggest this to you the first go around? If the cam timing was off the valve would have been damaged the moment the engine was started.
they didn't but it seemed common sense to me for them to replace the chain/ belt when doing the tensioner since the tensioner, chain/ belt, valves are all in the same cycle of effect!! I have warranty on the tensioner replacement on labor and parts but I feel like I want to sue them or do something but I don't know if I have a valid argument here. it's $2300 total now and they seemed very suspicious and too happy about me until I knew something was going on! LABOR is very expensive and when I came for the tensioner they should've replaced the belt and change the valve since they are all connected
when the tensioner needed to be replaced, the timing chain/belt and the valve should've been replaced with it and not doing that caused the problem today.
how come the valve broke while I was driving? they said the chain/belt is fine just the valve broke due to "weakness" ! is it possible?
Valves can break. Do you run the engine at high rpm's a lot? You really should find a good independent shop.
If your valve is a intake or exhaust valve in a particular cylinder, it is very possible it was bent back when first tensioner failed..[Voice of experience here] and went unnoticed ...My 2010CC skipped the chain due to tensioner, two exhaust valves on one cyl got very slightly bent..Engine ran fine for 2 mo...then set the CEL light..as P0303 misfire...Reason was a slow deteriation of valve to seat, and a minor loss of compression, hence a "variation of comp" between cylinders. and a very strict ECU won't allow.....Just got my car back....head removal and valve job [2 were seen bent when spun in a elec drill].....A dry and wet compression test should have been done on my engine, and probably on yours also, when the tensioner is replaced, as chances are it would have shown the slight loss on one cylinder...These 2.0T are interference design engines.
