Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Should I repair my 2000 323ci, which needs power steering, won’t start (may
be battery), control arm, air conditioning, air bag, may have suspension issues,
new headlight assembly, and who knows what else? Payment for a 2017 4
series is about $400 per month. Car exterior looks good. Assume I can get the
repairs for $2000 to $3000.

Nope, time to move on! This vehicle is 20 years old and has begun to fall apart. Use the money as a downpayment on the 17 model if you can afford to! You'll be much better off in the long run!! Hope that helps! Jim

So what do I do with this car? Sell it for salvage? If so how? Accept an offer from a used car dealership? Try to find a buyer who can fix it himself? Thanks.

I'd try to trade it in. You should be able to get enough for it to cover the sales tax or a few options on your new vehicle. Pressure the Dealer if you have to. Let them know that if they want to make a sale, they'll have to give you something for your old car, even if they have to tow it in. You might get lucky and find a buyer who's looking for a project or parts car. But as a last resort you can always junk it. KBB.com says it's worth about $2600 if you sell it yourself and it's in fair condition. So as you can see it's not worth fixing. Average trade in value is $840. I'd be happy with $500 on a trade in. You'll be rid of the headache and have a nice much better newer car! Hope that helps! Jim
