i have a 2012 honda civic , got a nail in my tire , i was told i had to buy 2 tires because there is 4/32 differances between my tires and new tires and will cause transmission problems is this true

First, a simple nail in the tread can be fixed, unless the sidewall was punctured. But NO. 1/8" difference is not going to cause transmission problems...if your tires are fairly good, put the new one on the rear if it can't be repaired and matching treads on front

Who's telling you this? If it's a shop trying to sell you tires get the hell out of there pronto. Go to a service station and get the tire plugged. Unless the hole from the nail is high up on the sidewall, it can be plugged. Shouldn't cost you more than $15-20 for a plug.
